Bakewell Pudding Shop Gets Romans n Rollers

How Peak Blinds Installed a Range of Blinds at the Bakewell Pudding Shop

Expert Blind Installations Across Derbyshire, from Heritage Landmarks to Family Homes

When Peak Blinds was approached to carry out a full blind installation at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, one of Derbyshire’s most iconic heritage landmarks, we knew the project demanded something special. This 17th-century building at the heart of Bakewell welcomes thousands of visitors every year, and getting the window treatments right meant balancing historic sensitivity with the hard-wearing demands of a busy commercial environment.

About Peak Blinds

Peak Blinds is the trusted local specialist for blind installations across Derbyshire. From listed buildings and hospitality venues to new-build homes and retail premises, our fully trained team delivers made-to-measure roller blinds, Roman blinds, Venetian blinds, vertical blinds, day and night blinds, and blackout solutions across Bakewell, Matlock, Chesterfield, Buxton, Ashbourne, Derby, and the wider county. Local knowledge and a personal service are what set Peak Blinds apart.

The Bakewell Pudding Shop Installation

The brief covered three distinct areas: the upstairs 80-seat licensed restaurant, the ground-floor gift shop and bakery counter, and the lower-ground-floor deli. Each space had its own lighting challenges, and Peak Blinds began with a thorough on-site survey before recommending a single product.

Roman Blinds for the Restaurant

Bespoke Roman blinds with blackout lining were fitted throughout the upstairs dining room. The warm, neutral fabric was chosen to complement the traditional interior, and the blackout lining gives the team full control over solar glare during busy lunch service. Every blind was cut and sewn to the precise dimensions of each window for a perfectly tailored finish.

Roller Blinds for the Shop Floor

Solar control roller blinds were installed across the ground-floor retail area. The fabric filters UV rays to protect merchandise from fading whilst keeping the shop bright and welcoming. A clean cassette headrail keeps the look professional, and all blinds were fitted with safety chain guides in line with current UK regulations.

Day and Night Blinds for the Deli

The deli required a versatile solution for varying light conditions throughout the day. Day and night blinds, with their alternating translucent and opaque bands, allow the team to move quickly between softly filtered light and a fully managed position, making them ideal for a space that also opens onto an outdoor courtyard.

The Bakewell Pudding Shop project illustrates the range and quality Peak Blinds brings to every job across Derbyshire. Whether you are managing a heritage venue, a retail unit, or a family home anywhere in the county, our made-to-measure approach and local expertise deliver a result you will love. Blind installations across Derbyshire are what we do best.

Rolling in Style: The Modern Appeal of Printed Roller Blinds

At Peak Blinds, we have seen a clear shift in how homeowners and businesses think about window coverings. Printed roller blinds fitted in Derbyshire are no longer simply practical window blinds. They are now an intentional design feature that brings personality, colour and texture into a space while delivering reliable light control, privacy and long term performance.

Printed roller blinds are growing in popularity across Derbyshire homes, schools and commercial properties because they strike a balance between visual impact and everyday usability. With advances in digitally printed roller fabrics, it is now possible to achieve bespoke blinds that meet the highest standards without sacrificing durability or ease of use.

As a family run business and leading supplier of quality blinds, we install patterned roller blinds that are tailored to each window, each room and each lifestyle.

Bamboo Pacific roller blinds

Why printed roller blinds are so popular across Derbyshire

Our Derbyshire customers tend to share a few common requirements. They want window treatments that feel personal, that fit perfectly within the window recess or window frame, and that perform well in changing British light conditions.

Custom-printed blinds allow for complete freedom of design. From subtle repeating patterns to bold statement prints, these blinds offer a finishing touch that ready-made options cannot match. Whether you are refreshing a living room or completing a commercial fit-out, printed roller blinds provide flexibility without compromise.

There is also the practical side. Modern printed roller blinds are manufactured using high-quality roller systems and high quality materials. The result is a product that looks beautiful while offering excellent privacy and reliable light control throughout the day.

The functional benefits of printed and patterned roller blinds

Patterned roller blinds do more than elevate décor. They are also built to perform. Depending on fabric choice, roller blinds can reduce glare, soften natural light or block it out entirely.

Blackout roller blinds are particularly popular in bedrooms and nurseries. Blackout fabrics offer increased privacy and improved sleep quality, while still allowing for customisation options in colour and pattern.

Thermal roller blinds help retain heat during colder months and reduce solar gain in summer, supporting improved insulation and energy efficiency. Waterproof and wipe clean cloth options are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms, where moisture resistance matters.

When fitted properly, window blinds like these offer consistent coverage across large windows and unusual openings, ensuring every space benefits from a tailored solution.

Types of printed roller blinds available

Printed roller blinds come in a wide selection of styles and technical finishes. At Peak Blinds, we guide customers through options that suit both design preference and room function.

Blackout printed roller blinds are ideal for bedrooms, home cinemas and care environments. Light-filtering fabrics work well in living spaces, allowing daylight to enter while maintaining privacy. Waterproof printed blinds are popular in kitchens and utility rooms where soft cloth is not practical.

Each blind is made to measure, ensuring perfect blinds that sit neatly within the window frame or window recess, with smooth operation every time.

From design choice to finished installation

Creating custom roller blinds is a process that benefits from both technology and craftsmanship. It begins with selecting a design. Many customers choose from curated pattern collections, while others use favourite photos or brand imagery for completely bespoke window coverings.

Once the design is finalised, fabrics are prepared and digitally printed roller material is produced to exact specifications. This modern printing process ensures clarity, colour accuracy and long-term durability, even in rooms exposed to strong light.

The final stage is professional fitting. Accurate measuring and careful installation ensure tailor made blinds that operate smoothly and deliver a beautiful finish across the entire window.

Choosing the right printed roller blinds for your space

Selecting the right blinds starts with understanding the room. Bedrooms benefit from blackout blinds. Living rooms often suit light filtering designs that soften natural light. Kitchens and bathrooms require materials that cope with moisture and heat.

It is also worth considering personal style. Printed roller blinds can complement existing décor or act as a feature in an otherwise neutral space. Subtle geometric patterns, floral prints and abstract designs all serve different purposes depending on scale and colour.

For business customers, branded printed roller blinds offer cost effective advertising and consistent interior design. They are equally suitable for small business premises and larger commercial spaces across Derbyshire.

Exploring design options and personalisation

One of the strongest advantages of printed roller blinds is variety. There are various options available, from traditional patterns to ultra modern graphics. Customers can choose from different styles, colours and print scales to achieve the desired impact.

Customisation options extend beyond visuals. Fabric thickness, openness and finish all influence light levels, privacy and insulation. By combining design and performance, printed blinds become a core part of the window treatment rather than an afterthought.

Care and maintenance for long lasting quality

High quality roller blinds are built to last, but simple care ensures they stay looking their best. Regular dusting with a soft cloth helps prevent buildup. Spot cleaning using mild detergent is usually sufficient for marks.

Printed fabrics are designed to retain colour and pattern detail when properly maintained. Avoid excessive moisture unless the fabric is specifically designed for waterproof use.

With sensible care, printed roller blinds continue to meet the highest standards year after year.

Using printed roller blinds in different rooms

In living rooms, patterned roller blinds provide warmth and visual interest while managing glare on screens. In bedrooms, blackout printed blinds improve rest and comfort. Kitchens benefit from wipe clean printed blinds that add character without absorbing moisture.

Commercial spaces across Derbyshire use printed blinds for branding, privacy and solar control. Offices, schools and healthcare environments all benefit from bespoke blinds that meet practical requirements without looking clinical.

Why printed roller blinds remain a smart choice in Derbyshire

Printed roller blinds fitted in Derbyshire combine personal design with proven functionality. They offer privacy, light control, insulation benefits and a wide range of aesthetic choices.

With advances in fabrics and digitally printed roller technology, these window coverings are more durable, versatile and visually striking than ever before. For homeowners and businesses alike, they remain one of the most adaptable window treatments available.

Bamboo Pacific Roller Blinds

Bamboo Pacific Roller Blinds fitted by Peak Blinds.

These are a few photos of some Bamboo Pacific Roller Blinds that Peak Blinds fitted in the summer of 2022.
They are in one of the new fabrics called ” Bamboo Pacific “, and I think they look amazing. The colour palette on the fabric is a great match to the customer’s existing kitchen and picks up on not just the colour of the units and the walls, but also the appliances and utensils found in the kitchen.

The remit was to provide a fabric that brightened up the room, colour-wise, but to reduce the overwhelming glare of the Sun in the morning, and these Roller Blinds fit the bill perfectly.

Reverse Roll Blinds

The Roller Blinds were installed as a ” reverse roll”, which basically means that the fabric pays out from the front of the barrel, rather than from the back. One of the advantages of this is that you don’t actually see the barrel, as it’s concealed by the fabric. This is especially good when the colour on the back of the fabric is different to the front.

They were ” face fixed ” to the window frames, as the window reveals in the house were fluted, rather than right-angled. This meant that our only option was to screw them to the frames, which worked out great.

As is so often the case,  Roller Blinds were the perfect solution because they are very easy to cut and fit on a window of any size. The customer chose this printed fabric called ” Emperor Grandis” which is a fantastic, decorative material, which due to the size of the window is a great showcase for showing off the dragonfly pattern.

It’s a great balance between functionality and bright, bold design colours. It does a brilliant job of reducing the glare of the Sun, whilst still retaining lots of natural light.

The Roller Blind was supplied with a chrome chain, located on the left-hand side of the window. As per the customers’ requirements, we also installed a chain tidy (this can be seen on some of the images, and is the device screwed to the wall, which the chain runs through). We also attached plastic chain poppers to the chains in the photos as an extra precaution, due to there being children present.

We used standard white brackets and drilled our holes into the side reveals of the window, for that extra strength for our fixings.
As before, we hope you like what Peak Blinds has done and enjoy the photos.

This adds a great-looking finish to the blind and is a brass-coloured “Senses” bar. Senses bars add a unique touch to your Roller Blind and are available in a range of colours which allow you to complement your choice of fabric with a sleek-looking bar, giving it a very individual look.

Semana Thunder Roller Blinds

These are two Semana Thunder Roller Blinds which Peak Blinds fitted for a local couple in the Matlock area .

Semana Thunder Blinds

Having just had a brand new kitchen, the customer was having a tough decision on what type of blind they wanted to compliment their new look.  In the end, they decided on these Roller Blinds as an alternative to both Venetian Blinds and Vertical Blinds.

Being used in a kitchen, they took the practical decision to have roller blinds, because rollers do a great job of cutting out the sun’s glare, but still afford plenty of natural light, especially at this time of year (Autumn / Winter).

Semana Thunder Fabric

The customers chose a fabric called “Semana Thunder “, which beautifully matches their new kitchen units and worktops. The customers chose chrome chains for the operation of the Blind rather than plastic, which adds a further sense of class.

As standard, there are “chain poppers” attached, which is a child safety feature used on Roller Blinds.

This allows the chain to “break” out of the white cleats holding the chain together if anyone becomes entangled. The cleats are easily fastened back together if this does happen, and it doesn’t cause any damage to the chains or the Roller Blinds themselves.

We used standard white brackets, drilling into the side reveals of the windows and tidying up the look with white screw head covers.

What Fabric will You Choose? Semana Thunder or…

No matter what your preference is Peak Blinds have a wide range of blinds fabric available for you to choose from.  All you have to do is get in touch, we will help you find the right blinds solution for your home or business.   Use the form on this page or call 01629 733 379.   Our friendly team are just waiting to hear from you.

Spring Assist Roller Blinds

Spring Assist Roller Blinds: James Restrick, Peak Blinds
Peak Blinds recently fitted spring assist roller blinds for a company in the Buxton area. These are the photos we took after fitting the blinds.spring assisted roller blinds

A spring-assist roller blind does away with the need for a chain to open and close the blind.

It has a tensioned spring contained within the barrel of the blind, and you simply pull it down to where you want it, and the blind locks in place. A gentle pull of the bottom bar and it retracts back up, either all the way or where you feel it looks better.

spring assisted roller blinds

We used standard face fix brackets, and the blinds were all fixed to a 40mm barrel, as the drop was nearly two metres, and needed a more substantial barrel and sturdier brackets.

They were screwed to the metal frames, first using a 3mm HSS (high-speed steel) drill bit to make some pilot holes, then self-tapping screws were used for the final fixings. Where appropriate, we fastened some bracket covers in the same “Anthracite” colour as the brackets, to try and blend it all in with the existing frames to create a seamless look.

spring assisted roller blinds

The fabric was a Blackout fabric called “Bella Mono”, and as you can see, has done a great job of looking like an integral part of the windows.
The customer is very satisfied with the end result, as it’s turned out really well.

Reverse Roller Blinds- Vermont Slate

Reverse Roller Blinds: James Restrick, Peak Blinds

Recently, we installed five separate reverse roller blinds at a home in the High Peak.

This customer had lots of sun streaming through their windows, which sounds lovely but can make it a bit too hot and bright in summer. By choosing to install five separate blinds our customer is able to adjust the level of each blind independently.

Ensuring that whilst blocking the glare for each section, she didn’t have to compromise the entire window and the view. If you need something like this in your home, we can help set the light levels so your rooms get as much or as little light as you need.

Vermont Slate Roller Blinds Installed

This fantastic fabric “Vermont Slate” is made out of a fire retardant polyester that can be wiped clean and is also UV protected. Vermont Slate is available in a range of greys.

The type of blind we installed is a “reverse roll”, sometimes called over the top. This means that the fabric rolls from the front of the blind rather than a standard roll, whereby the fabric rolls from the back of the blind. This is done to ensure that when they are being pulled down, they aren’t impeded by window handles. If you find that you are dealing with handles getting in the way of your blinds, this is a great solution.

They use a standard bracket, but are fixed to the front face of the window frames, which is why the customer opted for the “reverse roll”. All five are finished with chrome chains, and chain poppers. In this instance, the in-built child safety device is the white chain poppers /chain breaks, built into the chains on each blind. Easy to use, but highly effective. Another job completed by Peak Blinds.

New Roller Blinds Fitted in Matlock

New Roller Blinds Fitted in Matlock – James Restick. May 2019

We received a call from a homeowner in Matlock who was looking to buy Roller Blinds.   Luckily for us, this wasn’t a cold lead, but a previous customer of ours.  she’s been happy with blinds fitted in other rooms and just wanted to add some more.

Naturally, we love getting new customers but we also pride ourselves on keeping in touch with our existing customers. We like to ensure that they are happy with any blinds that we fitted and this also helps us maintain customer loyalty. As a business, we care about our existing customers and we want to ensure that if they want new blinds, we are their first choice.

New Roller Blinds Fitted in Matlock

The blinds were to be applied to a bay window, and the installation was a little trickier than your standard blinds installation because there were technically six windows. We managed to solve the issue by using three mid-size blinds, rather than 6 very small blinds.

Six blinds could have worked, but it would also mean that the homeowners have six blinds to attend to and clean as opposed to three.

The Blinds were fitted with:

    • Standard Brackets
    • Chrome Chain
    • Chain Poppers
    • FABRIC = Cherry Blossom Kimono

We fitted this blind with reverse roll too. This is so that we could create a suitable space between the blind fabric and the handles and catches on the windows.

Elegant Conservatory Blinds

Over the last few months, we have fitted a wide array of blinds across Derbyshire.  Roller blinds have been a consistent favourite throughout the year, and we’ve noticed more and more people choosing roller blinds for their conservatories.

Conservatory Blinds Are Affordable

Roller Blinds offer a very cost-effective way to shade and cool what is normally an exposed room in the house.

One recent example is these made to measure, Teal blinds fitted in Nottingham. As you can see, they are for a fairly large conservatory, the customer decided to break the space up using four Roller Blinds on the windows, and a larger one to cover the French doors. They are all done in a fabric called ” Bella Capri”, perhaps because the colour is reminiscent of the beautiful Mediterranean Island. the blue blinds are complemented perfectly with chrome chains.

The Roller Blinds provide the individual windows with light shading and privacy, and due to there being five altogether, it means that as the sun moves across the sky, the light changes in the conservatory light changes throughout the day, there is no need to lower them all at once. Rather, the blinds can be raised or lowered individually to suit. I’m sure you’ll agree that the blue hues complement the space.

If you’re interested in getting blinds for your conservatory, why not give us a call?  We’ll come out and see you, giving you time to look at the various blind styles and fabrics, whilst we take measurements and build a quite for you.

Blinds Fitted Locally

We know our customers feel it’s important to get their blinds fitted by a local company. We all love supporting local companies, don’t we?  It’s so much easier to build a good relationship with your local blind fitters than some big distant corporation, where you never speak to the same person twice.

We want to show you a few examples of blinds we’ve fitted locally in 2018. The photos are mostly of roller blinds, and the customers are from the Matlock, Darley and Wirksworth areas.

Yellow roller blinds for the kitchen window

How about these yellow blinds for a splash of colour?  These were chosen by a great couple in Wirksworth. The roller blinds are all in the fabric “Carnival”, with the top two being Paradise Pink, and the bottom two being  “Chartreuse”.

We think the overall effect looks fantastic, and despite the blind fabrics being such bold colours, they look great in this old brick fronted cottage.

Door Blinds Fitted  – Darley Dale

Next, we have this bold door blind which was fitted locally in Darley Dale. The lady in question wanted a bit of privacy on her front door, without blocking out the light altogether. The fabric she chose is called “Carnival Chelsea Red” which was a great choice, as it highlighted the bright reds in the stained glass of the door. Also, as it wasn’t a blackout fabric, it still allowed plenty of natural light to penetrate into the hall.

These are photos of a fabric called ” Colourtex Brownie” by Louvolite are fitted here in Matlock, Derbyshire as Roller Blinds.

Colourtex Brownie is fast becoming a popular fabric the soft earthy brown tone blends well with light wall colours and carpets.

The difference with these fittings is that the lady in question wanted Roller Blinds for her windows and doors, but rather than one blind per window, she opted for individual blinds for each window and door panel.

Whilst it made things a little trickier than normal, with regard to the measurements, I think it gives an independent look to each window and door. Rather than having one blind to cover the whole window, it offers the privacy which most people look for, but still, retains lots of light and a feeling of space.
